Fungus Among Us

Welcome to Taroandti.com. I am a mushroom fan and a respecter of fungus. Most of what we hear about is the bad stuff that’s irritating our feet or eating our plants, but the vast majority of fungus is beneficial. Be it mycorrhizal fungus that keeps my plants happy to edible mushrooms that fills my happy tummy, fungus is my friend. This site will cover that fascination for cultivating mushrooms for the plate, and for managing mycorrhizae in the garden for happier plants.

My latest project is a little collection of Shiitake logs. I photographically documented their plugging and will document the evolution of these logs as the Shiitake mycelia colonizes the log and finally starts fruiting. Later on I’ll document some of my other faves too, including building simple cultivation benches for agaricus type mushrooms like Button and Portobello, and even to growing Oyster Mushrooms on a roll of toilet paper. Stay tuned - lotsa fungal excitement is yet to come.
